Half an EE muff gone? UPDATED w/ PICS pg 2

Okay, it's getting worse. Now one muff is gone, the other is looking ragged and it's kind of going down her throat too. The bald patches have little black dots like blackheads. No sign of feathers coming in. The areas look kind of red, but that could be just because of it being cold.

I'm not seeing feathers in the coop or run and the rest of her feathers look fine. Any thoughts? Should I move this to the disease section? Ackk!

But she's so pitiful!

She will be 29 weeks old on Monday. She hasn't started laying eggs. If she's molting than I'm not likely to get any from her until spring, eh?

Do I need to do anything to keep her little nekkid face warm? It's been getting darn cold here at night. I don't want her face to freeze!

LOL, hmm. At 29 weeks, she really shouldnt be molting, though. Not really. I have them molt about 9 months old where I can really notice it but the BIG one comes around 18 months old. I wonder if you have one bird who likes to pluck her beard. Is that possible? Have you looked at her really closely for mites?

She's very much a scaredy chicken, so I don't often get near her. I went out tonight once they went to bed and tried to inspect her with a flashlight. She was not happy and kept moving from one end of the roost to the other.
I have poultry dust and keep the joint dusted down with DE. I haven't noticed mites on anybody's legs. Isn't that where you usually notice them?

I'm guessing somebody's plucking her, which means I need to move her to the other coop. What will happen to the pecking order when I add her in? Is it going to cause sheer chaos? Should I wait and do it one day when I'm home from work so I can watch her? I have blucote. Should I paint her face blue? The girls in the big girl coop are more agressive. I worry about moving her in there. She's so mellow. I thought she'd be fine with the banties. Argg.

There is a variety of mite called a plumage mite/feather mite. I haven't had to deal with any; like you, I kept the coop dusted with DE. Hopefully, someone can tell you what to look for, exactly. Wish I could be more help. You may have to spend some time out there and observe her interactions with the others to see if there is a plucker.

I finally got photos of her nekkid face. I hate to keep beating a dead horse. I'm just hoping someone will see this and definitively confirm what's going on. I'm so neurotic about the chickens.
