Half an EE muff gone? UPDATED w/ PICS pg 2

She looks healthy. I think she'll be just fine. Maybe she got her feathers pulled out by another chicken

I haven't noticed anyone plucking at her. I tried to move her in with the other group yesterday and she was pitiful. She stayed crammed up against the wire trying to get back in with her buddies. I was hoping that if I had a plucker and I moved the pluckee, she would have time to grow her feathers back. I couldn't stand it though and put her back with her friends. If I could catch the plucker I would move her. Poor Mattie is such a sweet mellow hen.

When mine molt at about 9 months old or so, they lose feathers in the beard/ear area like that. I have a Maddie, but she's a Barred Rock. I'm not sure what to tell you. If you dont have a plucker among them, I'm pretty sure she's doing a mini-molt.

I guess I'll just sit it out and see if they grow back in soon. If not I'll start the trauma of rearranging hens.

I'm starting to really love the barred rocks. I saw pics of some pencilled rocks and loved them. I just haven't found a good source for them. Maybe some day!
