Half Blind Leghorn! MAREKS! I STILL NEED HELP!!!!

We talked about this a little earlier, there are certian breeds that are less suseptible to the worst of mereks, they have a B factor in thier blood , Im not altogether what that means but it makes them able to withstand mereks. depending on thier breeding inbred birds are more suseptible. I think we had a partial list of breeds like the leghorn that are less suseptable for people who do not like to vaccinate.

I vaccinate all day old chicks for mereks and newcastles , newcastles is given in water or eyedropper also injectable . Mereks is in vaccine , subcutanous (just under skin) back of the neck shoulder.

There is also a coccidosis vaccine but only vets can administer it at this time.

He may not make a full recovery if indeed it is mereks , but as long as he is up and eating and drinking its a GREAT thing. If thats the case he should be valued for good genes in mereks free breeding program.

Shredded carrots help boost vitamine A and it may help, sure wont hurt but wont happen overnight. Its a good thing if he stays on his feet, shows interest in food and water and keep us posted on what happens. Changes for better (hoprfully) or worse. This disease has been a real scourge this last year.

If your bird survivs, and its proven it was mereks, value this bird as a no vaccine breeding stock bird.
