Hi, I finally created a byc account after lurking on and off for years while I geared up for getting started with chickens!
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
BRAND NEW to chickens, was never even around them as a kid! We got 6 buff orpington chicks about a month ago.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Funny thing, we bought 6 chicks because we figured we might lose a few - and we have a very small coop. But so far, all 6 are doing great!
(3) What breeds do you have?
Buff orpington was all that was left at tractor supply and we don't know enough to be picky.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Woodworking, making things with dried gourds gardening, reading .
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am a retired teacher who now works part time as a reading tutor, because who can afford to live on retirement alone? My husband is a retired Marine who is disabled but doesn't know when to take a break. We left our home of over 20 years in southeastern NC 2 years ago to move to our 118 year old farmhouse in the Appalachian hills. We are located midway between family in Ohio and in NC, which works out very well !
