Congratulations,My son and his wife came over to show us their first two eggs just about an hour ago. So, that made me go out to check my hens and foun their first egg. Pretty small but nice one. I bought seven chicks in April, lost six to dogs one day in June. Bough four more . One turned out to be a rooster. Dogs got two. I was about to give up on ever seeing an egg. So this egg has so far cost at least four hundred bucks. I bought a dog kennel for two hundred to keep the two hens and one rooster. So far so good. It,s not easy raising chickens!

Hang in there, arn. I found my first egg today after giving up looking. It wasn't in the nest, it was on top of the shavings bag. All that time looking under, behind and between everything, wondering if free-ranging was really a good idea...

who hoo.... we got our first two also, yesterday. Someone was checking out one of the nest boxes. Moving the fake Easter Egg put in there, broke it in half too.
Found both eggs on the floor, in a corner, under the shelf for the nesting boxes.....close.

So many great stories! i found a rogue egg today on the floor of the coop...my new girls' coop. Can't figure out who it came from though. Isn't green or blue...isn't the "dark chocolate" brown of a Maran egg...It is a mystery! It was smallish though - is it possible for the EE to NOT lay a colored egg and when do they typically start?
