I had hamsters before when I was a kid. They must have been the Syrians. I kept two sisters together fine... but they were nasty to people. They bloodied my fingers a few times so I gave up trying to handle them. Pretty though, and one turned out to have come pregnat so I got the fun of raising babies (with the hassle of finding homes).
Later when I was a teen.. I had some adorable pet mice for a while. They had a litter of tri-colored babies. The cutest and sweetest things!
Last year I finally got another hamster. A Cambells Dwarf from the petco here. They were actually full of info there. Wouldn't let me choose one until I answered questions on the cage I had, food, toys, ect.
Cuddles is the sweetest thing. He was supposed to be a girl (from the female labeled bin) but developed some bumps on his rear... LOL!
He leaps onto my hand any time I stick it into his cage... licks my fingers
but its cute... and loves to be held. Hes so funny.. he'll stick his paws up on the bars and stare at me when he wants attention. He likes sniffing noses through the bars with the dog.
Hes sweeter even than my mice were.
I know I'll be upset when he leaves me.... So I wanted to get another cage with another little friend to ease the transistion. And maybe if they were close together, Cuddles can have someone to visit and socialize with through the bars. I feel bad that hes all alone all the time, being so friendly.
Thank you for posting those links. I looked at them all and I decided on getting another Cambells Dwarf. I really want one of those pretty colors though, like the blue or the mottled, so I'm going to see how possible it is to find a breeder or something of the sort.
