I was wondering if anybody hand feeds their chickens at certain times so the chickens start coming to you when they hear your voice? I always sit out with mine in the morning when I let them out. They stay with me for quiet a while then they run for cover and then when i go out in the middle of the day, i call them and they come running fast. I love the way they follow me everywhere. I also go out in the evening when it's almost time to put them up for the night. Even if some are already roosting they jump down and come out with me.

Definitely! My pigs come when I call, too- especially for the word "treat" or "piggies" haha :D

It's a great way to have more of a relationship with your chickens :)

tonight I opened the window and called them, they came running to the window..... lol
so I hurried out and got some scratch for them and they all came out.... I have 14 Australorps and only one looks like she's ready to lay... the others are just starting to grow their waddles but their heads are red.... I can hardly wait for her to lay her 1st egg...
I got this treat for them, it has sunflower seeds ,Peanut, oat grouts and freeze dried worms.... they just love it... but to my surprise they leave the worms for last...

My wife and I hand feed ours every day. They even come running to the driveway when they see my car coming home from work LOL. They will literally eat right out of our hands, all of them except the one that we didn't raise ourselves. We get a lot of enjoyment out of this, and of course the chickens do as well. It's great to be able to call them and have them come. They do not like being touched though.

I love the way they come running when they here me...they follow me to the front door and down to the back door... I sit and watch them while they eat the scratch at my feet... they don't really like me to touch them...I so badly want to pet them and hold them but they don't want me to....

I ordered the large bag of freeze dried meal worms and I put a handful out with a bit of the scratch...They loved them! I'm just wondering how these girls know where our front and back doors are... when I finally go into the house, they show up at the doors..... I had to get a new weather station so we were out there putting it up.... these girls are so nosy... Rae

I just wanted to tell everyone that I had a bag of Shredded Carrots that you put into a salad...well if I didn't use them they were going to go bad, so I took the bag out and put it in their run.... to my surprise they cleaned them up completely.... those bags are so cheap, I'm going to start buying them things like that monthly... I just love sitting and watching them eat what I give them.... by the way, still no eggs!!!

Mine love shredded carrots. They work well in the run which is straw. I really don't think my chickens can pick out beige seeds unless I scatter them on dirt or grass. Could be wrong. They seem to grab things that stand out. But I'm with you on the carrots.

yes, I agree..... my run is sand so they can really find anything I put there...when I close the door for the night , I like to put a surprise for them , when they wake up they have something to keep them busy until I open the door for the day....
during the day I sit n my chair and put stuff for them right by my feet so I can watch them...close..lol
mine follow me all over the yard.... there are 2 of them that I think will lay very soon... I hope!
