Hand Raised vs. Hen raised

I've done it both ways and I find it's more fun to watch and let mama raise them. Another bonus is you don't have to keep the chicks under a heat lamp since mama keeps them warm. She teaches them how to eat, drink and hide under her for safety, plus it's fun to watch the chicks climb all over her.

I wish I could get a broody.. I'd have eggs to put under them. But hen raised chicks are a tad more flighty and not as friendly to human touch..

Hi! I prefer hand-raising chicks. Even if they were hatched under a broody, I bring the chicks inside to hand-raise.

Their personalities may be different. I find that when the hen raises them they end up being afraid of me but when I raise them they have no fear and follow me around. It is easier and less time consuming if the hen does if for you though.

I've done both myself and although it is a joy to watch chicks with a mother hen, I prefer handraising them. All of the chicks that have been raised by a hen are standoffish and won't let me near them. Most that I've handraised, I can pick up from any point in the pen and they don't flip out like the broody chicks.
