hand turning question

well my auto turner is full but i had a ton of eggs needing to go in by tonight so i set them. i drew the X and O, but ive never hand turned before, couple questions:
-do i just roll them or pick them up and flip them over?
-once my auto turner frees up and i move some into it or is that not good because its changing the position of the egg?
-if i have hand turned eggs, can i hatch in an egg carton or again, no because the position is changing?
-how many days do you hand turn? some say 2, some say 3. my auto seems to turn them quite a few times throughout the day..

I turned two times a day on days that I was at work, and three or more on my days off. I have had 11 babies hatch so far today ... 10 more to go!
My eggs were shipped, so they rested for about 8 hours, then I put them in the bator on the wire and turned them. I turned them by rolling them gently until they got to the correct mark. About 6 days before hatching, I quit turning them and put them air cell end up in egg cartons for hatching. Then on day 18 I increased the humidity.

ok great to know i can still hatch in the cartons! im curious tho why you stopped turning 6 days before hatch? i know most, and myself, stop 3 days before.

Ok silly question,where do you mark the x and o? When you turn them are you turning long ways from end to end or are you kind of rolling them side to side? Sounds silly but if i don't do it right i could loose so pretty ducks.

It doesn't really matter. It's better to just 'roll' them, in my opinion.

Sure. But I don't recommend it. Egg cartons can make it hard for chicks to hatch,
and move around. But others have their opinions, and I respect that

-How many days do you hand turn?
You turn 3 times a day EVERYDAY. Stop turning at day 18.
which is three days before the chick hatches. It needs those three
days to rest, and position itself for hatching, and it can't do that
when being turned.

I've never heard of stopping the turning SIX days before hatch.

It's not a silly question

Here. Heres a picture of where the O and X are supposed to be, and I
doodled on the last one to try and give you an idea on HOW to turn them.
Basically, say the egg is on the side with the O. Alls you do is roll it to the
Side with the X

Then on the totally opisite side of the egg, is the side with the O.

Now, this is the way you should turn them. Just roll it from which ever side it was
on, to the next.

Scissor Chick great presentation. I turn with an automatic but always wondered how to do the hand turning in case I needed to. Now I know what to do.
