handling baby ducks?

the key is to be Patient. If they shy away from yuor hand keep it where it is and let them get used to having the hand aorund them first. Then if you do get them ok near your hand pick them up and then place them back down.
Do this untill they are ok being picked up and then try to bring them to you :3

The Rouen when they were little would lay around, pet them, etc..

I have one Rouen left running with the Cayuga now and they come about 6 feet from me about feed time.. But no more petting..

True, but when they're babies, mallards have one eye stripe and a dot where their ear is, and rouens have two eye stripes.
Easiest way to tell them apart when young.
