Hands down best hens for eggs and kids to raise!

My 3 years old Golden Comets are very friendly and so are my 8 months old Barred Rocks.
I got them as day old Chicks and raised them in a Brooder and handed them daily.
Golden Comets are a red sex-links chicken and lay lots of Jumbo eggs.
They can have health problems.
I lost two around two years old. Another retired from laying at two years.
At 37 months another is laying sporadically, lays a week or so, then takes a week off.
The 5th hen lays 6/7 eggs a week after taking a 3 month break last winter to molt.
My seven 8 months old Barred Rocks give me 42 eggs a week on average.
I got the Golden Comets from a local farm and garden and the Barred Rocks from TSC in store.
All were sexed as Pullets. No Roosters here, so I can't comment on them. GC

I'd say red sex link and most hens you raise from a chick are usually kid friendly. All my hens I raised are great, I just spent time with them each day. The red sex links I got at 20 weeks and were basically laying, they allow anyone to pet them and walk up to them. Maybe I just got lucky, but they were like that from day 1.

I had some silver penciled Plymouth rock bantams for a while.
They were super friendly and easy to handle. They are small about size of bantam cochins but laid a large size egg for their size. As big as some of my LF birds. They did go broody a few times but was great at giving 5 or 6 eggs a week.

My granddaughter loved her black sex link hen. Here she was at age 3 with this hen, who was incredibly tolerant and allowed what I'd call excessive handling. She took this chicken on the slide, on swings, etc. And yet, the little hen laid an egg every day....
