Hands on hatching and help

It is Day 21. I had one pip at 2pm and it is starting to zip now at 2 am. 10 eggs left. 1 looks liquidy inside so I'm sure it has quit. The other 9, nothing yet. I found out mid incubation that my temp was only about 98 and not the 99.5 that the incubator was reading, so I'm trying to be patient.

Guess you forgot you were on the Hands ON thread again.

I'm sure those chicks are fine too, but that just looks so super cruel and unnecessary to me!

No this time I knew where I was At---LOL. Just discussing leaving them in the hatcher/incubator for 2 or 3 days. They were perfectly fine as the 1000's before and the 1000's after. Just a example of we can be different, hatch different, feel different about things, etc. I personally think they are cute----sticking their heads out the holes in the trays!!

That will delay it a bit. You have a forced air incubator?

Incubator is forced air, Hatcher is still air. I cracked into the air sac of another egg. I left the inner membrane intact. There is movement so replaced what I could of the shell and placed damp paper towel over it. The first one is out and looks good. I'm hoping it's peeping in there will encourage the others.

I personally would not try to hatch the eggs if you were a more than a degree or two low-------might take 23 days??

Quote:Well as Amylynn2374 says----there is more than one way---some do it one way and some other ways. I have hatched enough to say in my opinion I do not feel I have ever hurt a chick by keeping them in the incubator for 2/3 days after hatching. Most of the time I take them all out at one time on day 22 I have had to wait till almost day 23 because of being out of town. Never seen or felt that was a problem. Some times they will be some what packed in the cabinet, yes they knock eggs around---sounds like a Pool hall at times---lol, but that has never affected my hatch.

I found one in the bottom of my incubator 11 days after it hatched---still very much alive but was happy to see food and water. When I added it to the brooder with its sibling's it was noticeably smaller, but it caught up in a couple weeks.

You can take yours out when you feel you need to, I can leave mine in till they all hatch and we all can be happy---LOL some pics of the hatcher.

Have you sent off all deceased chicks for necropsy? Not try to be argumentative, but that is the only way to know for sure.

Hey all, I haven't been on here in forever. Took a hatching break over the winter. I know this is the hatching site but can't find help anywhere else. I have a sick hen. After research I've decided to try tylan 50 injectible. My poor silkie is so thin she has no breast muscle to inject. I read some people use the back of the neck. Will this still be effective? Also I have to use a diabetic needle. How do I figure out dosage in units? If anyone knows it would be much appreciated. This is our last ditch effort to save her.. Tried everything else..

Some people give it orally, so you could try that. Send a PM to Eggcessive for dosing info because I think she's used it before. Tylan only treats a few types of bacterial, but you might get lucky. Has she been dewormed?

I rarely have one to die, so no I see no need to send one out of a hundred or two to have a necropsy. Even some people on here have more to die(higher %) than that and they remove them the time they hatch basically. My System/set-up works great for me. I use to take them out soon after they dried-----most regulars on here know my results from that.

I do not mind your opinions, we all got opinions. My main purpose for leaving all them in till day 22 is for having a higher, trouble free hatch %. Just for info there was 221 eggs in this hatch---220 hatched---the one that did not hatch I seen and thought it was a early death when I put them into lock down----but I wanted to give it a chance.

I would not try anymore to tell anyone that their way is wrong----Do your hatch just the way you want---open all you want and remove all the hatched chicks you want---take tweezers all you want and help some hatch. I just do my hatches my way and would not change because I have right at 100% hatch every hatch and I like to try and help by sharing my results on what I feel does or does not hurt for my hatches. I just want everyone to have good hatches and as trouble free as possible. Good Luck

I give it orally---probably a little less than 1ml dosage for a silkie. I has some silkies that got soooo thin as you described and they were eat up with worms----I used fenbendazole before they got at Death and saved them. Might not be your problem, but it was for me.
