Hands on hatching and help

Ewwwwww I know I should open them (Gently, teeny small opening into the air cell) to see if there's any life and if not, to find out what happened, but ewwwwww!! I freely and readily admit to being a germaphobic, squeamish wimp. Can't I just learn this incubating thing in increments? Like:

INC 101......Ordering Eggs and Setting up Your Incubator
INC 101A....Setting Eggs and Learning Humidity (and Humility)
INC 201......Candling Basic and Advanced
INC 301......Learning Patience
INC 401......Eggtopsies and Their Importance

I'm still in INC 201 and not quite ready for the graduate work. <sigh>
I didn't expect you to do the eggtopsies. That's why I said I'd be tempted to call it BUT I do the eggtopsies.

Not sure if my reply to my little cracked egg posted.
No blood, no oozing, looks like from the outside of shell. I haven't bonked it at all. I checked everything. They were shipped eggs, well packed but 2 out of the 4 didn't develope.
I candled last night & it looks good! Nice big veins.
This site won't let me upload pictures now?
The crack is a little smaller than an eraser head, with some slight fracture lines coming out from it.
I'm being super extra gentle with it.

If it's made it this far without issue, then I'd be more inclined to just leave it... sounds like the membrane isn't compromised so it might not have any issues... I had a cracked shipped egg hatch just fine that was similar... and I never put anything on it... just my 2 cents... :)

Thank you. I will just proceed as normal and see what happens. :)

I'm not quite sure what this is supposed to show. My understanding of the water test for eggs that are late to hatch is to put each one in a bowl of warm water, one at a time, then let it settle. Watch it. If there are teeny ripples in the water, the embryo is still alive and moving, even if it's so slight that we can't normally see it by just looking at it. I just don't see where putting them all in a pan of water at once shows much, if anything. Not trying to be argumentative - just trying to learn.
