Hanging Automatic Waterer Installation More Help Needed

Cutler Supply also stocks a bell waterer for $14.95 that hangs. It's weighted so that it does move very much yet it tips if they try to get on it. It works with a gravity feed fill that disconnects without having to shut the water off which allows me to disconnect the bell portion to clean it.

I live in Florida so maybe a couple times a year in the winter will it get down below freezing. Then it's only for a couple hours I've never had a problem with any of the pipes that run to the horse pastures. If we think it will get to cold we open the faucets and let the water run all night.

No the bowls are not big enough for them to roost on.

These have a valve in them that shuts the water off when you take the bowl off for cleaning. It looks like a tire valve in the end and the bowl twists off and on for cleaning which I really like.

So, helpful folks, now I need MORE help.....One of my waterers keeps overfilling and dripping.

Now, I can tell from looking inside the mechanism that it is completely adjustable. Basically there are two nuts that screw up and down and can be adjusted closer or farther apart from each other.

What I don't know is how it works, and so I don't know whether I want the bottom one low and the top one right next to it, or the bottom one low and the top one higher, or the bottom one and the top one both in the middle or at the top....

Can someone 'splain how the mechanism works? In small words for an old lady with 5 thumbs, puleeze...

Thank you.
Susan

Ok to increase water level in bowl, tighten wide nut( control nut) against spring.

to decrease water level, turn control nut away from the spring.

When desired water level is obtained, screw narrow nut (lock nut) against control nut and tighten with pliers.

I love the way Ivy has hers set up but was wondering....

I'm going to use in a tractor that is going to be moving over uneven terrain. Would it be better to use a flexible hose connection so that it would level itself off instead of being static which could cause it to leak over the sides.

just thinking

don't you smell the smoke??!!
