Hanging the food and water

did you have to cement it in? im not strong enough for that but i bet its nice and handy. is this a run or coop for you? i thought i would have to put a solid roof up for rain and snow.

No, Its only buried about 18 inches down. I took a 8 foot 4x4 post and cut 3 foot off of it. Notched the top so the 3 foot piece would fit in cross ways and screwed it. There is not enough weight requiring concrete.

thanks, im not trying to be a pest but notched it how? like half of each one or? and what tool can you use to notch it with?

If you were to make the "T" by simply screwing the cross the T would be weak, needs support.

So, a 4x4 post is actually 3 1/2 x 3 1/2. I took a skill saw (Circular saw) to make the notch. I measured down 4 inches from the top of the post and marked a line. Then measured 3 5/8 inches from the first mark. (remember post is actually 3 1/2 and wanted a little play room.

The deepest my skill saw will cut is 2 inches. I made a series of cuts about a 1/4 inch or less apart in between my 2 marks (3 5/8 space) A hammer will knock out all the pieces and then I took a wood chisel and chiseled out the left over pieces.

Now center up the 3 foot piece cross ways and screw it from the back side w/ 3 inch screws. This design will give you added strength and you won't need any support braces.

Looks great. The chickens seem to like it too!
