I am trying to find a hanging waterer for my chicks online without much luck. All I've found are receiving poor reviews. I can buy hanging feeders locally but not the hanging waterers. If anyone had to buy online, could you tell me where you bought yours, what brand you would recommend and the size I need to get. I have seven four-week old chicks but would like to get one that will also work when they are grown. Also, should I put a feeder and waterer outside as well as inside? Our run is covered in 1/2" carpenters mesh so don't think wild birds getting to the feed will be a problem. I think I would bring them inside during the night. Don't want to attract unneeded attention by our night time visitors. Thanks you all so much for the great information on this site.

I made a horrizontal nipple waterer and love it, keeps the water perfectly clean. I got the nipples from"all bout chickens"drill a 3/8 hole and screw them in, can't get any easier.Mine are outside all year round they don't need anything in the coop at night they are basically in a coma until sunrise. These nipples don't hold any water so they can't freeze and they don't leak a drop.

How do you get them interested in drinking from a nipple?
They just peck at it because it's red and figure out that water comes from it?

I just tapped it with my finger and they saw a drip come out, once one figures it out they all will catch on. There is a silver button in the middle which the water comes out of maybe the silver shiny thing gets there attention but this works great.

Well, I have to do something. The ducks have their own pool but prefer to swim in the small pool which is water for everyone so I have to change the water at least once a day. Usually, they just splash the water out and I have to refill it.

I started out with the same one as chickencanoe. I liked it, but it still gets dirty and has to be refilled too often depending on the number of chickens you have. I shifted to a nipple system on pvc pipe attached to a 5 gallon bucket, it's awesome.

When the ground here gets muddy, you can find yourself sitting in it, VERY slippery. I think I will find a way to do the bucket and nipples. Hopefully, they will learn quickly and then the ducks will have only their own pool for taking baths in.

Can these be used for newborn chicks? I mean, say 2 or 3 days old?

I don't think I would at such a young age, I would worry about dehydration wait until they are a few weeks old and then go for it.
