My 8 girls arrived at our house (from the feed store) 3 months ago today. They almost look full grown, but only the vaguest indications of wattles or combs yet. One or two still peep, but the rest talk like chickens. They are so sweet. We still keep them fenced off from our 4 hens.
We had a scare a few weeks ago when one of our EEs got stepped on by my husband (who is their primary caretaker, to be fair.) I was sure she had broken bones and should be put out of her misery. She had one eye swollen shut and couldn't close her beak for a few days, but he nursed her back to apparent health with scrambled eggs and strawberries. When she survived the first night, we brought her brood sister in to sit with her and she just sat quietly next to her for the 10 days or so until we took her back outside. What good girls.
