Fifty years ago, on this day,
A young man and woman stood up to say
A lifelong promise; come what may,
"I do."
Joy and sorrow might have their day;
They'd meet them together, not turn away.
For them, there was no other way:
"I do."
Tears and laughter, times to pray,
Children, grandchildren; friends gone away.
The love they share is beyond assay,
"I do."
The years went by, their hair turned gray
(For him, a lot just went away)
And still they live it, every day,
"I do."
Now once again, on this day.
The man and the woman stand up to say
With new understanding, every day,
"I do."
Happy Anniversary, George and Elaine! May you share many more!
