Three days ago +/- I was getting ready to shut down the electric hen, I had seven or eight eggs that did not hatch so I candled them for confirmation.

There also was one egg that may have been the first to pip (maybe second) but never unzipped .

I expected that egg to be totally dead, I picked it up turned to toss it then stopped and held it to my ear and gave a fingernail tap to the air sac...

Much to my surprise I got a strong "CHEEP" and I thought my goodness...

well I went ahead and peeled him out, he was in pretty foul shape his little body wanting to spring back to egg shape, and he had the "bubby feet".

Usually I find those chicks dead in the brooder so I thought I'll just leave you in the incubator where you can die without getting trampled.

I put in some food and a tiny water dish and waited...

one day, two day, three day...now he looks fine, walking on his feet and getting strong, almost ready for the brooder.

I held him once on day two and stretched his little feet out and thats all, no shoes or any other tricks, just time and a good chance to get better.

much to my surprise he got better, someone else may want to try this technique.

I once dumped some 'dud' eggs on the mulch heap. I happened by later that day and heard a chick cheeping. Followed the sound, and there in the mulch heap was a newly hatched chick. Heat from the decomposing mulch must have kept it warm enough.

Don't you talk about momma, even if she was a pile of decomposing garbage....
