Wow!

What in good gracious is a palm frond!? I thought I knew what those were, but I always thought they were rather soft. I must be thinking of something completely different if it managed to go through your son's boot into his foot! That is insane! Glad he is on the mend

Thank you! He's foot's much better now. I can barely see the wound now. It was such a small hole, I'm amazed by the amount of blood that came out of there. My first thought was "Artery!" I'll ask DH to find the guilty frond (or another one) so I can post a pic of it. Then you all can put it on you "do not kick" list LOL.

Aww, so glad he's healing up good. He'll probably want to be the one to make that sign.

Growing up in the desert all of us little kids had accidental run-ins with plants that will never be forgotten.

The palms (whether living or the fallen fronds) in this area shelter scorpions so I won't even stand under the pretty ones if I can help it, lol.

I can only imagine the type that that injured your precious little man.

Yep, those are terrible offenders and so deceiving! They look like they'd be weak and bend like straw but the spikes just harden more.

I feel sooo bad for him!

DH warned him against the fronds when he started dragging them home, but little guys don't listen. I should've thrown the thing in the fire! Instead I put it against the wall where (I thought) it's out of harm's way. Until that mouse hid under it and DS decided to give the mouse a fright. Instead he gave his parents a fright! I feel bad that we hurt himself. DH tossed the frond onto the roof, so he had to climb up there to take the pics LOL.

Those spikes look similar to the ones at the base of a date palm frond. We have to be careful when handling them because they will stick right through leather gloves. OUCH!

I think blood has some magical magnification property, because it always looks like there's way too much, especially when it's coming from your kid. Glad he's fine.
I remember many many years ago

when I was in first grade, Todd Olsen, a classmate, tripped and hit the bridge of his nose right between the eyes, on the sharp edge of a desk. Must have broken an artery where he hit, because a thin stream of blood spurted straight out like you described. Got all over the classroom until the teacher pinched it off. Todd got taken away in a ambulance. He was fine, but it sure made a big impression on us 7 year olds. I can picture it vividly to this day. Your son will have a great story to tell his kids some day!
