They're not banned here, just illegal in our state.

I bet they were fantastic. I still remember when it was New Years in 2008/9... I was 12, I think. I can't do the maths.
I was staying with an (ex) friend of mine, and when the fireworks went off in the distance we all did the hugs thing and 'good luck for the new year'.

Back at home, my parents didn't even stay awake for the fireworks
