Happy Solstice! We are officially on our ways to longer days in the northern hemisphere and hopefully more eggs. Feel free to share pictures of your girls and their eggs when they resume laying here and let's celebrate. I think it's crazy how they know that days are even one minute longer. Last year I had a girl lay on the day after solstice. Today I heard the egg song for the first time in ages!

Happy Solstice and Happy Holidays!
Mine started laying at 28 weeks at maturity. Still waiting on a few more girls.

I hope your other girls will start laying soon! At least you are getting a few eggs, I think my last layer quit about 2 weeks ago. Beautiful eggs!

WOO HOO! Winter solstice! Longer days make me happy, even if the girls don't lay again for a while. I hope they start soon though.:celebrate

I agree. I don't mind the cold, I don't mind the snow, but I do mind how DARK it is all the time, I can't wait for longer days!

Solstice Day Minutiae... for my locale.
Today will be 3s 'longer' than yesterday .
The sun will actually rise later until Jan 10,
but we will have gained 15m of daylight by then.
Sun height over horizon will continue increase exponentially,
most won't really notice until Imbolc in early Feb
when we will have gained an hour of daylight.
Many won't celebrate the return of the Sun
until near the Equinox in March.

Same here, it's the dark that gets to me. I do think I would mind the snow, though, if we had a lot of it. It's such a novelty here, we all think it's fun. I can count on one hand the number of times it's snowed here though, in my lifetime. I'm no spring chicken, either!

Congrats! How old is she?
Not sure! I consider her a rescue. I brought her home in mid-October along with a second LH and a CA white. They were spring 2018 hatches. She only weighed 2.98 pounds. She now weighs 3.83 pounds so she gained almost 1/3 of her body weight with proper nutrition.
