Hi all! Happy to be a new member. Here is a little about me.

I started raising chickens 2.5 years ago. But I was raised on a farm many years ago with chickens and other livestock.

I currently have 4 hens and a rooster. I had two roosters until yesterday. I got rid of one because he was terrorizing the original 3 older hens. I didn't want any roosters but back in June bought three young chickens at a farmers market hoping to get three hens. The saying 2 out of 3 ain't bad was the case here. Ended up with 2 roosters and one hen. Lesson learned on that one. The 3 original hens (about 2 years old) are nervous around the one rooster I am keeping for now. I am hoping they all mellow out and get along after getting rid of the one rooster I know was a problem.

The 3 original hens are 2 production reds and 1 Black Silk Sex Link. The rooster I got rid of was an Easter Egger. The new rooster and hen I kept that was bought at the farmers market in June are Blue Silver Laced Wyandotte.

When I was young we raised chickens for meat and eggs. Never really spent time with them. I don't remember having any issues with the chickens back then. The ones I have now in my later years are pets and for eggs. I've had some issues with the hens and egg laying over the past 2 years. Every time I searched the internet for information, I seemed to always end up at BYC for the answers and have learned a lot here. So, I figured it was about time to join here so I can chime in on posts and ask questions.
