Good day! We are Silver Highlands Farm, located in the scenic Central Maine (Highlands) area. We have a small farm that strives to be a year-round local source for high quality food, heritage and rare breed poultry, and ornamental crops.

We began our farm in 2015, purchased a defunct farm property in 2016 and began with worms (mealworms, wax worms and Euros) and chickens in 2017. We currently have Lakenvelders and Barred Hollands, and are expanding to include Faverolles, Buckeyes and a few other endangered/rare breeds by the fall of 2018.

We've been familiar with Backyardchickens.com for many years now, and it was an integral part of our research during the preparation for our poultry endeavors. We look forward to participating and reading all about your flocks and interests!

We are a veteran owned operation, and are Homegrown By Heroes certified. We are a proud military family, and come from a long line of veterans.

We are in the process of NPIP certification (Mar2018) and hope to be certified organic within the next two years as well. We operate a natural farm, following organic principals.

We spend a lot of time on the farm, as caretakers and with our extended family. Like many in this area, we hunt and fish regularly. We tour around on ATVs and snowmobiles, we ski in the winter and hike in the summer. We work outside the house and have another home business as well, so we keep pretty busy!

All the best,
Colleen Maguire & Eric Willett

G’Day from down under Colleen & Eric :frow Welcome!

I am pleased you delurked and hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share more Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Glad you're here !

A must have for your poultry is a FIRST AID KIT for any issues that would arise. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/suggestions-for-a-first-aid-kit.1150128/)
It's definitely better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.

Also, make sure your coop(s) have a proper amount of VENTILATION. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...-there-and-cut-more-holes-in-your-coop.47774/) Your chickens will absolutely thank you for it!

One last thing, if you're into gardening, feel free to join this years SEED SWAP (https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/seed-swap.1220129/)
