Happy to Join this Community

Hello everyone! My family lives in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains and about a year ago we decided to jump into the world of homesteading. It's a significant learning curve, but we are having a great time learning everything. Whenever I would have a question, this website would often come up with answers so I finally decided to join.
We have 8 beautiful Buff Orpington chickens (7 hens/1 rooster) and we are picking up Silver Fox rabbits tomorrow as we will be breeding/raising those for meat. We have an aggressive garden layout planned for the spring and we are building raised beds over the winter to prepare for that.

Because we live in the forest, it's rare to find others who are homesteading, but I'm hopeful to find additional people in our local community that are becoming self reliant.

Although I'm here to learn from the veteran chicken-raising famlies, and most likely won't be able to add value yet... I'm a whiz in the kitchen just in case anyone ever needs a good recipe, or is just learning about sourdough, or is looking for a method/shortcut in the kitchen. :)

Looking forward to meeting everyone, thanks for having me!
Elizabeth
Welcome! :jumpy:welcome I hope you have fun here

Welcome here Elizabeth. How exciting for you guys. I raised rabbits for meat 30 years ago, it was great.
I love my hens they are such characters.Do you plan on preserving your garden goods? We have a preserving thread and a garden one also just to let you know. Welcome again.
Thank you for the warm welcome! What breed of rabbits did you have? As far as preserving, yes indeed. It's all part of my "crash course" in getting closer to our food. This past year we built a cold room which resembles a root cellar to a large degree so I can store some things in there, and I experimented with my pressure cooker and have gotten savvy (and brave) with that! LOL Can not wait to have tomatoes that taste like tomatoes coming out of the garden and about 40 other items that are planned. Thank you for telling me about those threads. This platform has so many things to explore, I wish I didn't have so many tasks that pull me away.
