Hi all! I have to retype this cause my son deleted the last post that I wrote.
We just moved onto our property, and first priority for me was chickens! For now I used my 10x10 dog run that we hadn't used in a while. I covered the top with a roof, wired chicken wire on the bottom inside for extra measure. I laid wood mulch down so they can help me make better mulch & compost and for now an up cycled work bench is Their coop. My plan is to extend their run to 10x30 with a coop built into a building that is half playhouse for my boys and half coop with a window in between so the kids can see
but I'm not sure when we will get to that.
I just got my babies, 6.5 week old 4 black australorps and 2 golden comets. I love them! We plan to use them for eggs mostly. I'm not sure I can bring myself to eat my pets...even though I'm into homesteading so we know where our food comes from its still hard. I have considered raining cornish birds for meat that way I don't get too attached.who knows...
Oh and no free ranging here, one of my three dogs would surely kill them given the opportunity. My 6 month old mini American shepherd loves them however and she's just their little guardian/future herder lol.
