Can a rooster have the feather coloring of the second one?

im am not an expert with ees but i do believe you have a pair

They could be a pair or both pullets, but really I think they're still too young to tell. Look for red splotches, especially in the wing bows, as they get older. My girls usually feathered in like the second chick, but EEs vary so much!

Looks like a pair, but keep an eye on the orange one, that coloring can go either way.

The one in the first pic on the left is a henny penny (boys don't come in that pattern). Your orange one is a little dude.

I thought that would be the coloring of a pullet. It is the same size as the cockerel though. The behavior of that chick is very dominant. It is probably king or queen of the brooder! And of the dozen in the brooder 3/4ths are cockerels. Is it possible for a pullet to be that dominant?

More than possible. Ever heard of the phrase "hen pecked"? Or seen how bossy middle school girls are before the boys catch up to them? Same thing.

Update: They both ended up being roosters.
