I got some chickens about 2 weeks ago 3 austalorps(12mo old) and a road island red(9mo old). all supposed to be hens. I think the road island read might be a rooster. I only have one rir so I don't have nothing to compare it too. had em fer 2 weeks now and I don't think i got an egg from it, yet, and it seems to have been making a bit of a crowing noise lately which I thought was a warning because it saw a predator but all I could see was a squirel eating a nut in a tree, yesterday at about 530 in the morning and in the eavening than again around 900 this morning. I have heard that a hen might do this from time to time but I don't know could just be me but looks like the tail feathers might be growing longer the past 2 weeks and there are 2 bumps where the spurs would be on the back of the legs the australorps don't have that??? will get a picture in a few min slightly worried I may have a cock.

I got a hen with 4 inch spurs and most of her babies that are girls have grown spurs as well. They are all polish, So it might just be that she will grow some spurs or not but a picture will help

This RIR doesn't sound like the others either, not a bk bk bk b-cock but more of an authoritative yell. look at the tail fethers???rooster??

gotta find out what to do with this rooster now. not supposed to have one in town, dinner??? or I know of a farm that may take him gonna miss em though handsome bird
