My pullets are almost 21 weeks. I had 1 egg last Thursday and then 1 on Saturday. Nothing for 3 days. I go out this morning and there is 1 soft shell egg. Is this normal??? I have 10 pullets, sex links and 1 that is either an auricana or welsummer. I am new to the chicken life, so I get confused easily!! :)

That's normal. They need some time to get their egg-laying systems in synch. Plus, you can't expect an egg from every hen every day even when they begin laying regularly.
Enjoy your fresh eggs when you get enough to cook!

Mine have been laying for several weeks and just a few days ago I had a couple of days with 100% production. One of mine, also, was laying cracked, soft shell or no shell eggs before she got it down and this week she laid two double yolkers. So, yes, there is lots of wierd stuff that's normal

my first chicken was laying for nearly 3months good hard shelled eggs and then one day i went to pick up her egg and my fingers went right threw it "Ewwwwwwww!!! Slimy!" the next day her eggs were right back to normal hard shells. Everyone told me that it was normal for her to have an occasional soft egg, so i dismissed it as being no big deal. But, then two weeks later she laid another soft egg and they stayed soft for over a week. it turned out that she wasn't getting enough green food (grass or other vegetation) and that was causing her to be low on the calcium that makes shells hard. So I had to give her extra green leafy foods and start mixing oyster shell into her meal.

Not saying this happens with every bird especially since my others (i have had 13) never had this problem, but you should be vigilant.

Thank you! I just went out cause 1 hen was cackling and there was an egg! Hard shell and all. So, maybe I now have 2 hens laying!!! This is very exciting for me.
