Hello all! I have 16 ducklings that are just over 2 weeks old now... and I need to tame them. Until now the twice a week complete cleaning of their kiddie pool has been quite the chore w/trying to catch them, etc. Now that they are getting bigger (man these things grow fast, lol) I need them tamer so that I can pick them up easier and so that they'll be my little buddies come summer in the garden.

So I've heard of frozen peas, etc... but can I feed them hard boiled eggs chopped up like I'm doing the chicks to help tame them? Or can I use canned (store bought) peas? Or what other things will make them come running? lol

Mine loved scrambled eggs, it took them awhile to figure out it was edible but then they loved it. They also like corn. I wouldn't use canned foods because of the peservitives and stuff in them.

Check out the "sticky" forum about food and nutrition it is AWESOME!! I printed it out and take it to the store or farmers market with me so if I find something cheap I just double check my sheet!

I believe it says hard boiled eggs are ok shell and all just chopped up good. But I think you want to be careful with babies because of the calcium in the shell.

All of my ducks, from babies to adults, prefer scrambled eggs to hard-boiled eggs. Just don't add any butter or oil to the pan - you can use a little bit of nonstick cooking spray if you need to. They're all crazy for dandelion leaves too, which are very nutritious.

No canned foods; because of the added sodium, canned peas are just too salty for ducks - they'll eat them, but it's not good for them.

Mine love their hard boiled eggs! They fight over the pieces. And my older poultry loves it--- my turkey Imelda eats it out of my hand, and my spare rooster Junior comes running for it--- though my greedy barn cat Tohru gets about half the pieces I give to Junior. I have a lot of extra eggs anyway and so I cook them up 12 at a time in my rice cooker and feed them to poultry and cats. I try not to feed Imelda any turkey eggs, though.
