Hello flock!
I'm in Northern N.E.,
with an approximately 4# Red Sex link hen struggling with effects of a small hard knot in crop,,impacted crop?,,tried to eat this AM but quits quickly.
. She is young, was laying eggs, and has been in good condition, body score perhaps 4 last wk, before issue, now possibly a 3/2,,,
She is likely (very) dehydrated
now, I noticed her tail down 3-4
days ago,but then she appeared to be better nxt day,,,now this yesterday, her crop, looked, "filled",in AM yesterday.
Her crop was not near empty
early yesterday AM when all others were,,,looks better this AM but still a hard knot in there when palpated,,
I realize now I may have mixed up this poor hen with another one of 3 identical ones (🙄)and she may have been hiding,,,I do not have bands, and was looking for some way for future reference to mark a bird,,,where can I find info on bands here for future reference, pls?
Incidentally,I do have
a 1000ml IV bag of Normal Saline for subcutaneous fluids and the line, setup, and know how to use it,,,but not on a chicken,,,will read the write up on it,as likely dehydration is now an issue,,where is the info on dehydration eval pls?
. Re capillary refill test, where is this done, on neck skin pls?
I do have "Hospital cage",can lower temp to 50 degrees in my birdie, "ICU", as it may be shock to go from 30f outside to 68f inside ,,,any thoughts on this please?
I will ck for stuck egg, also, per instructions (TY!) but pls explain what you "tube",with, and the tubing process for future reference,,,

Take away her food for now and get some water and olive down her. This happened to me yesterday, ironically. We had a 5mo Easter egger w/ a mild impacted crop. I massaged it every hour or so gently pushing food down. Another way to tell if it’s impacted crop is if they seem very hungry or are pooping clear or watery poop.

Awesome, thanks,,,she's looking pretty good inside the house in her ICU pen,,but still needs care, her tail is still down most of the time, she's acting very hungry, interested in food, is drinking water w/ACV, her eyes are open most of the time, and she's sort of pooping, normal looking poop .
She is a free ranger, has run of my Farm, barn, and I cought her & 2 of her cohorts pecking at & eating for whatever reason the cardboard box of a new freezer in the Barn,,,they had a feeder w/organic feed in it 12' away,,,maybe they need grit,,,? They have some sand available to them .

She's not egg bound, I checked her,,,
thanks

Mine have sand and small pebbles to use if they want as grit. Mine never had her tail down, though. Luckily I had caught her early enough. But yes, just try and massage the food through if she’ll let you.

She ate lots of pure organic
coconut oil which will melt nicely into her crop,,,,,
. Thanks, I ll get coarser sand just in case,,,,
