Hard lesson

If they are only 6 weeks old now, they will likely get too big to sleep up there in the future. Hopefully none gets stuck between now and then. Blocking off anywhere they could get stuck isn't a bad idea.

This was the chickies first choice when we moved them to the coop. It never occurred to us they would go higher than the roost! We fixed those wires immediately. It was pretty funny.

Yep, the "rule" is a 3"+ round or a 2x4 on edge for roosts yet sometimes the chickens will choose something WAY thinner and seemingly impossible (like your wires!). I had a 1/2" plywood divider cutting the 2 parallel 12' long roosts into two 6' sections a couple of years ago because I had a hen that would seriously go out of her way to annoy the pullets, chase them off the roost, then go back to where she had been. Every night. Some of the pullets started roosting on the 1/2" wide board :thI really don't think that is real good for their feet and took out the separator after a couple of weeks after Miss Pissypants let off.

Goodness.....thankfully any wires I have are attached well to the wall. I took care of the roof issues and now today also took care of the narrow board they were perching on tool. I don't care if they perch over the window because they can still poop in the poop box...I just don't want to have to scoop poop out of that tiny space where they were going.

I did that the same day we had the issue. I have screened in the entire top of the coop so they can't get up there but the air can still circulate. :)
