Hello!

I have a 2 year old hen. Not sure the breed. She has a hard lump about the size of a lime or lemon. I imagine it's her crop that's swollen, and it's been swollen for at least several days or maybe a week. At first I thought it might just be a cluster of feathers, since she's molting. She's been acting pretty normal as far as I can tell. She's drinking and eating. I haven't really noticed her poops but I'll try to get a look at them tomorrow.

She's been molting for nearly two months. She lost a lot of feathers the first week or two, and then she's been gradually losing more feathers ever since. The feathers she lost early on are nearly all grown back.

The feathers at her breast and crop area look odd.

Can you get someone to hold her and take a look at that area to see if she has an abscess, cyst or tumor there on the skin? Photos of the skin and lump/feathers may be helpful as well.

As for the crop if it's not emptying overnight, then address that symptom, but be sure it's the crop and not one of the above before starting treatment according to the article below.

Thank you for your guidance.

I checked her crop this morning and it was empty with no lump. I think her outer breast and crop feathers are missing from molt, so just the down is exposed and that's why it looks funny.

Perhaps there is nothing really long. It just seemed like every time I looked at her the crop seemed swollen, but I think she's just good at keeping it full.
