Hardiest grass for a run?

I used my hands today to pull some tall grass and weeds for them and they went nuts for it. I try to give them weeds and veggies and stuff from the garden. I've also heard of people on BYC saving grass clippings from the summer and freezing it for winter time to feed their chickens.

We have not gotten our chickens yet hopefully next Friday if the coop is finished but everyone we have talked to say, when we mow our yard rake the clippings up and toss in the run and our chicks will go nuts or at least I hope they do. We also plan on tossing them in a leftover salad (hold the dressing).

Okay, thanks!

I really like to have my chickens eat greens- in their current run they have feed and that's it. But then when I let them out they run like rockets to the lawn and start eating the grass as if they're starving
