Hi! I'm a total newbie here so please bear with me :) Don't have any chickens yet but will be getting 2-3. Planning on getting RIR's. Trying to get the coop figured out first.

Right now the plan is to put the coop inside a 10'x20' dog kennel for our chicken run (which has been difficult to find at a reasonable price!). We're gonna anchor the kennel into the ground with kennel anchors I found on the Petco website. They apparently hold strength up tp 2500 lbs when placed correctly. We live in Oklahoma so I feel like we need to do this since we get strong winds and obviously tornadoes too (though we rarely get them in the city I live in and never have in the 24 years since my birth that I can remember. We DO get strong winds though!). If anyone has any other tornado or strong wind ideas or suggestions they would be MUCH appreciated! I want to use a tin roof. What is the best way to attach the roof to the kennel? A friend told me to drill holes and wire it down but can someone please give me an example? I'm not the most handy person and I want to know exactly what I might need to do this securely.

Around the kennel we want to use hardware cloth. How far up the sides of the kennel should we be going? I was thinking around 3 feet? I think the kennel we're looking at getting is 6 feet tall. We live in the city but our neighborhood has a lot of foxes. Hawks are also a concern of ours and possibly raccoons as well. I'm thinking about attaching the HC to the sides of the kennel with zip ties. Would this work? I'm also unsure how to secure it to the ground. Long nails and washers perhaps? How long should the HC be on the ground? In pictures I've looked at it seems to be anywhere from a few inches to a foot or 2. Also how do we secure around the door to the kennel without the gaps?

Can anyone please share some pix of their dog kennel coops/runs? Am I missing anything? Should I be doing anything differently? Also, Oklahoma seems to be more and more prone to ice storms. Are there any preparations we need to do to the coop and run before another one hits or is it something we can do when we winterize?

10x10 kennel but you get the idea, hardware cloth around the bottom and around the door and welded wire around any other gaps between the roof and kennel panels, I put a 4x4 across and small pieces on top of that to get more pitch screwed them together and on the back panel I used huge zip ties, been up over a year with 2ft of snow this winter on top and it held up great, I do clean the snow off for piece of mind but very happy with this setup. You could do a wire apron around I wired the whole floor before adding the sand.
