Hardware Disease?

One of my khaki girls has been not eating and lethargic for a few days, so I took her to a (very good) exotics vet.

He called me this afternoon to say her WBC were pretty high (infection), and that X-rays revealed a small metal wire in her gizzard.

He’s keeping her for 48 hours and starting antibiotics and syringe feeding.

He never mentioned surgery.

Has anyone ever experienced something like this? I can’t imagine that the infection wouldn’t return if the metal is still in her.

I'm sorry that I do not have any advice for you, just a question. What vet did you take her to? I am from northeast ohio, just like your profile says you are. I am looking for a good vet myself. Sure hope your girl gets better soon!
