harmful or harmless plant?

CHIA seed/ sativa plant... Ok or dangerous for chickens? I got a couple packets of this seed for free from the local health food/ natural/ organic store and am wondering if it would be okay to plant them in the chickens area, or in a pot to bring into the barn.

I don't see how they can harmful they are a super health food like flax or quinoa.

Are your birds free ranging? IMO, chickens confined to a pen will eat sometimes plants that shouldn't, maybe out of boredom.

But my free range flocks don't get poisoned and there are plenty of poisonous plants on this farm. They instinctively know what's okay to eat and what's not.
