I'm looking to buy some but I want to make sure the ones I get actually produce dark eggs, it's kinda the whole point of having them. Some of the posts I've looked at have mentioned some of the BCMs they've gotten from hatcheries and such, the eggs they produce aren't even really dark and in some cases not at all. I saw that Stromberg's has them listed but I don't want to buy from them if they aren't going to have dark eggs, so I was wondering if anyone's had experience buying BCMs from them.
And as long as I'm asking what other hatcheries/places can I get some that will actually lay the dark eggs? If I absolutely can't get any black ones that lay dark eggs according to what people say, I'd settle for blue or splash.
I don't know if I'm going to be able to get any this year because of how crazy the demand is for eggs/chicks, a few local places like feed stores around here have said they sell out of chicks within about an hour after getting a new weekly shipment, and ordering anything online (been looking at Stromberg's) hasn't been much better. Some of the other breeds I'm interested in will finally say available after weeks but a few days later, if that even, they're unavailable again. But I at least want to know for future reference where I can get some dark egg laying Marans.
