Has anyone bred Pekin and welsh harlequin ducks together??

Every single time she eats, she gets "congested ". Starts doing her coughing/sneezing thing blowing liquid out her nares. I get so nervous to feed her anymore. She gets so excited about food, I have to limit her every few seconds because she starts to almost choke. This poor little girl is really having a tough time

When she is eating does she have water right there to drink? they have to wash their feed down.
Yes maam, absolutely. She just sticks her entire beak in to drink and eat her (wet) food, basically inhaling it....I try to hold her upper body so she cant go that far into her water cup but she is a spunky lil thing. So far her "episodes" have happened after eating so right now, I'm holding her close praying shes ok. Shes had 2 so far, the 2nd was far worse than the 1st. Waiting for the vet to call me back this morning.

Me too. Lastnight was bad, and I realized just how much of a mess I'm gonna be without her. But, we had a new baby hatch lastnight (1of our last 3 eggs). Since she is closer to Joy's size, we held the 2 of them near eachother a few minutes ago and it was so sweet. Joy got so excited & they just nuzzled their beaks all over eachother. I'm still keeping these 2 seperate, but in the same brooder (box inside a box kind of thing). They chirp back and forth. When my husband held Joy near the older 3 the other day, it broke my heart, they didnt want to go near her, and almost pecked her.... so I'm glad she'll have one close to her size.
Now.... just gotta get those legs a-workin. Ya know.... she has NEVER once sat down on her body the way all ducks do with their feet under them. If she sits, it's like a human, on her butt with her legs in front. Her legs will bend in all the appropriate directions, wonder if it was from her belly?! But that's gone down pretty good since.....she is a pooping machine now.

Only a vet can tell you hopefully what is going on with her legs and why they aren't working the way they should. I haven't had experience with this so I am following along to learn and to support you anyway I can. I am so happy sounds like she's going to have a buddy. I'd get them together as quick as you can feel comfortable so they imprint with each other. That will seal the friendship. Just give the new one today to get a bit stronger. Maybe having a buddy will help Joy relax a bit more.

I think so too. But....we have the other 2 eggs hatching today, so my only worry is I cant put Joy in with 3 when she cant move around, ya know. But I'll figure it out. But Thank you for always being there and checking in. I have met some amazing people on here and have received more help & knowledge than I could have anywhere else. Hopefully the vet will call soon and I'll let you know the outcome

It may work out putting her in with the 3 young ones. They may climb on her but if she is sturdy enough she can probably take it. But you know best. I am just thinking maybe having some friends will help her to relax some and learn from watching. Of course that would mean having to put food and water in with them which may not be such a good idea right now. Play times might work nicely though. :)

Have you made a safe waterer yet? something like this?
