Has anyone bred Pekin and welsh harlequin ducks together??

Oh, that's good. I should have known you would do what is best for her. I'm so happy that Joy is doing well other than the legs. I think about her all the time.
Awww, thanks. I think about yall all the time. Just didnt know if I was bugging everyone with nonstop texting & posting about Joy, Joy, Joy!:p I know everyone else have lives & their own animals so i feel bad always taking the conversation all the time:duc. But... I do thank yall.... if only you all knew how much you have all helped us.:clap:bow:love

That sounds like you've had a great day with your little bundle of Joy!

Be careful doing her leg exercises with her. There may not be anything you can do to stop this bending back of her legs. Does she react if it hurts? Maybe you could contact one of the vet schools and see if they'd have any suggestions for you.

How much does she weigh now?

Also, yes, I hope to call around tomorrow. I'm 99% positive they're going to want to See her tho before telling me a thing. As far as her weight, ya know.... she is so difficult to get a precise, or even close weight on. If I could find one that holds weight below it, like in the produce section at the grocery store, that would work. But it fluctuates way too much to even guess. I'll try again tomorrow and see. Yesterday I weighed my chunky butt, Noel (her sister, 1 day older) and holy cow.... it was all over the place, couldnt even keep both
"her"(?) huge feet on the scale top....think she broke it.:hmm:confused: The 1st batch (Joy's batch) are HUGE!!! Youd think they're a month or 2 old. I'll try to get some pics with certain things around them in the morning to show size comparison.
Pic #1 is 1st batch
(Stella, Noel, Celeste)
Pic#2 is 2nd batch
(Mable, Marley, Callie)

Ok, so..... Joy ate a little bit.... not a whole lot, she seems to be a bit congested. But, I'm having a time with my older bunch. Bigger ones start panting 1st, then little. I make sure their nares are clear, bath & dipping water, but they are staying hot(?) I've turned off heat lamps days ago...only use that for right after baths now. But I've got th air in the room now down to the low 70s, kept turning it down little by little until they seemed to calm down but back at it this morning. Their body & beak is warm....why are they getting so hot or panting?? Now, I remember I had a time with Max when he was a duckling with respiratory issues....vet said it was most likely hereditary. He grew out of it & is a big healthy boy now
But, what do yall think? I dont want them to be cold, I thought they would need to be warmer than the 70s? I hold a cup to each of them & let them sip cool water, & that helps, but it's only temporary.:idunno:he:barnie
This morning, I rubbed a little PetRx (it's an oil to help breathe & soothe resp.issues) on them to try that. Not sure what else to try.... any thoughts or suggestions on this?

How old are they now? What size brooder are they in? And they have water constantly?
They are now approx.3wks old (1st batch) & 2wks.old (2nd batch). Yes, they do have continuous water always, deep enough to clean nares, and the big ones are in a brooder about 6 or 7ft long by 2-3ft wide(?) give or take. We Just built a nice Big wooden brooder for them lastnight, for them its huge so excited to see them run around in it. The younger ones are in a brooder approx. 2x4. So, they're growing fast, but tried to make sure they had ample space. Once we move the bigger ones into the new big brooder today, the little ones will move into the current big ones brooder (sorry if I just confused the heck out of you.:hmm:confused::th:lau)

:lol:Nope you didn’t much! Okay so maybe they are a little cramped and since they are wearing a down jacket they are getting too warm. I have read often of Pekin duckling panting and needing their heat lamp removed at around 3 weeks old. They sure looked healthy the pics of the ones you posted. Hopefully the move will help. I don’t know what else other than space and not using the heat you can do for them unless it’s warm enough outside to move them out.
