my house in maryland
i put 2 of my rescued rabbits on CL to find them a nice "house bunny " home. They were originally indoor rabbits but owners were unable to keep them and i have them now even though i'm allergic, so they have been outside.
So i put an ad on CL. I get lots of emails for them, but everyone who says they want them never show up to see them.THEN i get an email from someone who is very interested in getting 1 for her daughter and wants to know if there is an adoption fee. I say no, but i require a vet reference to be sure the animal will go to a responsible home. The response is ...it is not for me, i already have rabbits.it is for my girlfriend who fell in love with the posted photo supposedly. i told that person that they need to get their story straight and if they are honestly interested in 1 of the rabbits i would still need a vet reference...

are there that many crazies and irresponsible people on CL?

I glance over them, delete the crazies or questionables, and wait for legit emails.

I usually add a statement to put some phrase in the subject line only, or else emails will be ignored and deleted. It really helps weed out the people who don't actually read the listing, since they have to read it to find notice that phrase. I usually pop it in the middle of a paragraph, not in a separate line at the end or something (which would draw their eye to it, and they might not read the info I want them to). It is usually something simple but somewhat related to the add, like for yours, I would use the phrase "Bugs Bunny"

Have had trouble many times with people wanting me to "hold" something until they come by. Then they never show.

Now, I don't hold anything. First come, first served. Or, I put it on Freecycle and just give it away. Don't hold anything and it will be out by the road.

I have never put any live creatures on CL. Did get my chickens and coop from CL, and the previous owner had several people do the same thing, wanting to come by but never showing up.

oh yeah. the biggest pet peeve is when people want you to meet them somewhere because they don't want to drive. I live about 30 miles from the city and people always want me to drive down there and deliver it. um no-you can drive up here and get it yourself!

or people haven't even heard of the town I live in...I can't imagine living somewhere and NOT knowing the surrounding towns.

there are a few good people on there, but they are few and far between!

I know that there is a petstore here that does bunny adoptions once or twice a month. It is much like the cat or dog adoptions--they have bunnies there to look at, but no way are you taking a bunny home that day. Pretty sure you have to fill out an application, and there is an adoption fee. You might look on www.rabbit.org to see if there is a House Rabbit Society chapter near you, and that could help you find adoptive homes for your bunnies.

I wouldn't have a vet reference, not for anything other than my dog[he hasn't been at the vet in yrs though]. My other dog, 2 cats, zillion chickens and when I had rabbits, it was self treatment or bust. I only go for Petco Rabies and that's it.

there isn't a vet with in a 100 miles that would even look a rabbit around here. there refuse too. chickens and ducks included. i will never email someone on craigslist i will only buy if they leave phone number to call. same with selling. i wont answer emails. they must call me if they want to buy. i also put first come first serve 8am-8pm with my phone number for selling.
