Has anyone else used Exterior paint INSIDE the coop?

How long do you have to wait for it to dry? The fumes are pretty strong yet after two days. My chicks will go in there soon so how long do you recommend waiting?

I used oil base paint for the interior of my coop. I waited 4 days until I put my chickens in the coop. Can you place a fan to blow into the coop it help it dry and get rid of the fumes?? Remember that when you shut them in for the night the fumes will build up, therefore I would close up the coop up in a couple of days and then use my nose in the morning to see if the coop is ready to occupy.

THanks...I kept the door open and right now I can tell it's not ready. It smells even with the door open. I may wait a week...the chicks are only three -four weeks old so I have plenty of time to let it air out...plus I have a window that opens...I may keep it open a crack for them. Oh did you paint the nesting boxes? I sealed mine but didn't paint them yet. I found some latex exterior that I may use in the nest boxes rather then the oil.

I did paint the nesting boxes. Its worth the extra time and expense to protect your investment, both hens and coop. I painted to seal up the wood from pests like mites and also help protect against moisture damage.
Waiting a week is a good idea at that young of an age. They seem more sensitive to fumes than older birds.
