I got 2 roosters... older RIR and a half RIR a quarter silkie/OEGB........any ways i went out side today to feed the birds and i noticed some blood on my EE........i picked her up an looked at her back where i saw the blood and that was a pretty big hole in her back.....it wasent bleeding any more but i could see inside the wood....ehhh.........i no that my half RIR dont have spurs and he didn't have blood on hos foot but my RIR did?? and it looked like some on his spur had broken off..........she is acting like nothing has ever happen eating drinking and roosting she is fine but i am kinda worried about the wood and if it could get infected and her get ill?? and is this just an accident while breeding her??? My RIR has never shown any aggretion to his hen so im asooming this was not done to her on pupose??

I,ve only had chickens for a year, and not a lot of experience but I would put some Neosporen or triple antibiotic of some kind in that wound. and watch to see if it gets worse. Some times the roos or the other hens will go after one hen. Don,t know why. Good luck

Having the two roos together in one pen could be an issue. They will compete for the same hens and the hens end up getting roughed up.
You need a lot of hens to keep two roos busy.

As for the medical, I wouldn't think it would be good to leave a foreign subtance in her body. If you can see it - why not use tweezers to pull it out ?

I keep iodine around for sterlizing any injuries. It tends to be recommended more than the neosorpin.
I also keep some blood stop powder for all my animals - pigs, dogs, cats, and chickens. I have seen two dogs go at each other and the owner put some of the bond stop on the injury and held it there for a couple of minutes. It was amazing - like a powder band aide / liquid stitch. The dog stop bleeding and everybody went home happy.

I have only had MINOR scrapes - - so I hope some of our more experienced members join in.
