I hatched out some ducklings in my bator. They seem to have burned their heads/eye area on the heating element. I didn't keep them in there for too long of a time period, I just waited till they could stand on their feet. Has anyone else ever had this happen?

It is a Little GIant Still Air Incubator. In my opinion they need to design an extender to put between the top and the bottom halves so they are not so close to the element.

I have m ducklings in my brooder box now and they seem to be getting better. It just is frustrating knowing you have perfectly healthy ducklings and then this happens to them. Should I write to the company?

Little Giant incubators are all around flawed. Cheap polysterine, as opposed to the thick, harder polysterine on the hovabator. The hovabator uses a wafer thermostat, the little giant uses their cruddy electronic thermostat. Little Giants are also very short compared to hovabator.

I recommend you placing a hardware cloth guard around the heating element.

Great suggestion.. I will try that. I will also be looking in to getting a hovabator.

Its Sad as they make it the most affordable for us small timers.. But Boy can that get hot .. My Son just touched one the other day not realizing how hot it can be I could tell he wanted to cry .. And hes ten not just born like your poor lil ducks .

Yeah I have burned my hand on the element already. Guess I should have thought about that when the ducklings were hatching. :/

I have never had the LG burn my chicks (not that I Know of) but boy has it burned me plenty. I am going to tinker with it later today when I have the time. I wanna see if I can make that incubator work right or not. The dumb thermostat is the biggest issue.
