Has anyone ever put the hose on chickens?

Spray them and mine run for the hills.

Leave the sprinkler on & they're all under it watching the little trickles of water.

The other day, I filled a washtub with water and literally gave my x-rocks a dunking. I held them down, up to their necks. Interestingly, some of them put up a good fight and others just sort of sat there. Afterwords, they were not panting and seemed much happier. However, they are now a little skittish of the washtub!

My 5 yo put a hen in the duck pool and she just sat there for a few minutes, and then jumped out, we thought..hmmm..maybe it felt good, so we went and caught the others one by one and sat them in the pool, most of them stayed in for a couple minutes, some jumped out right away. But ususally when we change the pool water, we let the hose run where they dustbath and the holes fill up with water, and they play around there. Even the ducks don't like being sprayed with the hose....imagine that!

I spray mine with the hose periodically, they don't like it and run away but not before they get a little wet.
They say misting the air can bring down the temp a lot so I do this also. I have
some wild roses and they love getting cool under those.

I misted mine and the floor of the run yesterday. They all ran at first and then they started coming closer to check it out. A couple of them seemed to run through it on purpose, but they ran through it fast like they were shot from a cannon!

In No.Calif. the heat is incredible this year, along with smoke. When they are not out and are locked in the very large pen, I have a 6 nozzle mister that hooks up to my hose . I bought it at Walmart for $6.99. Best money I spent. It is only a gal an hour, but it reduces the temp. in the pen by 20 degrees. They eventually lay under it and it cools well.
