Has anyone ever used Ebates?

I'd love your feedback...there has to be a catch to it, but darned if I can see it. I've only used it twice...already received a check in the mail, and just got an email that I'm getting $7.40 back on a purchase I made at Sears online today. You know if it sounds too good to be true it usually is...but so far I'm as happy as a pig in...well, you know!!

I've really wanted to try it, because it sounded amazing! But when I told my friends what I was going to do, they started to warn me about people trying to steal all my info, hackers, etc. So idk... it really seems too good to be true.

Both times I've used Ebates, I shopped at "big" retailers...Sears, as I said, and Amazon was the other. Today, just for kicks, I went back to the Sears site after I had ended the sale and closed my browser. The Sears site looked exactly the same as it had when I went through Ebates. I do watch my credit card transactions like a hawk, though, and I never use my debit card when shopping online.

Some people told me that they don't like the idea of Ebates (or anyone) knowing what they purchase. I don't know if this information gets traded around or not...probably does...but my purchases were Christmas toys and a playpen...neither illegal nor embarrassing...lol...so if that information is out there, I really don't care!

I thought I would chime in real quick on your concerns and comments. I can say that these sites do not actually see what it is your purchasing. I run a website just like Ebates called www.locallyreferred.com so I know how everything works on the back end. All we can see when a purchase is made is how much was spent and that is literally it.

I definitely understand your skepticism though! And it's good to be cautious when doing any transactions online. I just thought I would hopefully help you ease your worries a little bit though!
