Has anyone flown recently with children?

Just curious. Did you need to show id, birth certificate? I'm flying SWA with my 13 year old soon and I just want to hear your experiences please. (It is her first time to fly.)

I would bring the birth certificate. They seem to be getting VERY fussy about making sure the name on the ticket EXACTLY matches an ID. I was flying with kids over 18, but one of them is Korean so her "American" first name didn't match up to her passport and UAL almost would not let her through security - and this was before the underpants bomber on Christmas Day.

Also, if you are separated or divorced and have joint custody I think you may have to have some kind of written permission from the other parent - or maybe that's just if you go outside the country? Not sure on that one...

Does anyone else know for certain? Jeeze, our last names aren't even the same.

(When I call SWA, I have to sit on hold forever!! I just can't do that right now.)

TSA's website is pretty vague too.

We just flew a couple weeks ago with our two boys and didn't need anything. They are 8 and 9.5 though.

If you are a divorced parent applying for a passport you need the other parent's consent. Domestic should not be a problem. You can take her to DMV and get her an ID, not a license, just a state ID.

DMV id- three of my kids flew with my sister last week (Disney- lucky!) and that is what she needed. For that you need their original birth certificate, ss card, and proof of your residence (we used our electric bill). They also accept other forms of ID (call them). If you have passports for them, I think that is accepted by the airlines as well (manditory leaving the states of course). Good luck and have fun!!

went to the V.I. 3 years ago with at the time our 4yo son. Needed the orig. or a notarized birth cert. Had no problems. We took several notarized copies one in each carry on and one each in our pockets just to be on the safe side.
