Has anyone successfully tamed a mean tom?

@R2elk I have one more question... if the turkey is attacking me because he's protecting his flockmates, does that mean he thinks the cockerels are his "hens"? I assume a male turkey would not risk his life to protect other males.

You can never know what goes on in the mind of a turkey but tom turkeys have been known to kill cockerels and try to mate with them. Then again they have been known to try to breed soccer balls too.

Yeah I have seen my turkey trying to mate with some potted plants. I am NOT looking forward to getting flogged when it comes time to repot the flowers.

I tend to see aggressiveness in bronze toms more so than any other variety I have raised, I currently have a yearling that is beginning to be aggressive towards me but I really don't pay him much attention. When I go in the pen I hold my arm out over the top of him and he doesn't like that and backs away. If he gets to the point he hits me then I'll heat up the oven! First aggressive tom I've had in years.

Blessings,

Bo

Is he dropping his wing when he walks sideways at you?🤔 I have messed with a mean Tom before and now he is so nice, I can hug him!
No, he stands up tall and lifts his wing like he wants to slap me, if that makes sense.

How did you turn your Tom into a nice guy?

I have 4 Midgit Whites. The yearlings were naturally hatched and have been like acouple of kids to me lol. Now that they are 1 year, my Tommy boy has turned aggressive toward my Leghorn Roos...and Only the Roos. I have him penned separately but made a gap for hens to scratch with him.
When I get

in the pen, I am Brief with him. I noticed he doesn't like me hanging out too long..so I respect his space. I bring him food aand water, tell him good morning, I gently rub his head and kiss his head then walk away.
BUT when I sat down on the ground to be with him, he started walking on my legs, acting more aggressive so I quickly realized That is not a good idea. He is teaching me how to properly care for him as im sure your Tom will teach you.

Well... I started feeding him and leaving the door cracked so I could run out if I had to. Then I started standing at the door and just kinda watching him. Then I sat down at the door. He came really close to me then left. After that, I was so tried of him running away from me, so I corned him and petted him in front of his fan. He just sits there, with his mouth open breathing rapidly. Then I fed him out of my hand and we are friends! 😊

He also does the same thing to my dad that he is doing to you. Does getting water off his tarp make a loud noise? (If you have a tarp over your birds...)
