I have been shopping around looking at Guineas and I was considering buying a dozen hatching eggs from Stromberg's Chickens. Has anyone here purchased hatching eggs from Stromberg's? Was it a positive experience, or not so much?
Thanks!

Guinea eggs purchased from Stromberg's come directly from the Guinea Farm. Buying them through Stromberg's includes shipping by Priority Mail. You don't get the option of upgrading to Express Mail and the ones I received through Stromberg's also didn't include the message to Hold for Pickup and to call upon arrival. Of the eggs that I got through Stromberg's, 5 of 36 eggs hatched. Let me say that other than my experience with the guinea eggs that Stromberg's is a wonderful place to do business with and their customer service is excellent.

From the eggs I bought directly from the Guinea Farm that I had upgraded to Express Mail and the P.O. held for pickup and called me to come get them, I had 9 of 24 hatch with 12 of the 24 being clears. The cost from the Guinea Farm once you include the cost of shipping is just about the same as buying the eggs through Stromberg's with the shipping already included.

Thank you! I knew that they shipped directly from the breeder, but I couldn't find which breeder they were using. The hatching egg prices seemed reasonable enough, but I would much rather buy directly from the breeder.

I have had excellent results with ebay on guinea eggs. I've bought from several different places and never had below 75% hatch. The time of year makes a lot of difference when trying to hatch shipped eggs. Winter or early spring has been the best for me. Heat seems to adversly affect the eggs more than cold. I always "rest" shipped eggs for 24 hours before putting in the incubator.

A year ago, I purchase some quail eggs from them. I received an email from them telling me the general dates that I would receive my delivery, so I contacted my post office and asked them to hold all packages. As luck turned out, they missed that one package and the carrier stuffed the box into my mailbox, where it sat until I got home. I was horrified when I saw the box stuck in there sideways, and the daytime temperature was in the low 80's. I contacted Strombergs on what happened, and they told me to contact them if I didn't have a successful hatch. Two out of 15 chicks, so they shipped me another 15 plus a few extra eggs, only this time they provided me with a tracking number, and I was able to have that package held by the post office, and I had 11 out of 18, so I wasn't totally upset about the experience. I just wish it could have been positive from the beginning.

The way the Post Master explained it, Priority Mail does not necessarily have a tracking number, so it is difficult for them to find one package out of hundreds of thousands, but if a package has a tracking number, it can be identified by automation. As I have told the people at Strombergs, I would gladly pay for UPS Overnite or FedEx if it meant I could receive my hatching eggs without incident, but since they don't ship a single egg, that is out of their control.

I have since found a more reliable source for quail eggs, so I no longer use Strombergs.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

I broke down and bought a set of 8+ Purple guinea eggs from a seller on Ebay. We put them under a hen yesterday and I am looking forward to candling them on the 13th. Some of the air cells were kind of wonky and two were detached, so we will see how it goes.

I've got some guinea hatching eggs ordered from Stromberg's to come the first of June. Hopefully everything works out, as I've heard both positive and negatives. I'm nervous now!
