has anyone tried this?

ya I figure it will give me about a week of relief. I am giving serious consideration to prison fencing... you know the kind where the barbwire angles outward and is electrified.... do you think the neighbors will call child protective services when they see my children playing inside prison fencing???

I know you really want to let your birds free range, but I'm wondering if just building them a larger run -- or two runs that you can switch them between month to month -- might be your best option.

Coyotes are extremely smart. I'm worried that they'll figure out that the deterrent isn't a real threat.

I use Great Prynees dogs. They are the best gaurd dogs I have ever had. I used to have coyote problems until I got them. The coyotes don't come close to my poultry or other animals.

Skunk essence is a common ingredient as a trapping lure for all predators, or as is by itself. It is a universal attractant. Try to keep that particular odor away from the coop. lol

Skunk essense is used as a COVER scent to mask human odor.
Other scents are used to attract

Newbie just jumping in with two feet but thought I'd mention that people with sheep often get a 'guard llama'. I was most impressed when I heard one woman describe how her llama kicks coyotes and seems to send them flying.....just an idea.....

Also, cougar pee is available if you want to back that sound up .....on the other hand I wonder if they would stay away if you...um...scented your property with your own...um...urine (Hey! It worked for me once when rats were climbing up my walls and much cheaper)

o.k. sneaking out now

nope not yet. They said on their website it takes 8 weeks.

I don't have a problem at night - it is during the day. My friend stayed here all last week with her dogs and it didn't help. They (coyotes) were in our backyard withen 8 hours of the dogs leaving.

I am under the impression that coyotes can jump up to 10 feet so I am hoping instead of trying to make a 15 foot fence I can deter them or kill them.

I will let you know .... and I guess the only way to know is going to be to let them out during the day and see what happens...

I haven't tried this product or any related products.

However, the concept works on a limited timeframe. Vineyards use bird distress calls to ward off starlings and sparrows after the grapes have ripened. It works for a few weeks, and then the birds figure it out and come back to eat the grapes with impunity.

Two things I know for a fact that works; 1 a donkey, 2 a llama. Both hate coyote. If given a chance they will stomp them into the ground. I have never heard of the product, but if it works so much the better. As with any mechical device, the predators get used to them. If a donkey or llama is out of the question, try a radio in a talk show. Most predators avoid a human voice. And a talk show is always changing host, so you have a voice change.

We have lots of coyotes. We hear them almost every night and see them often during the day. We don't lose stock to them because of our dogs. The dogs raise a ruckus when the coyotes get too close. We have chickens, peacocks and goats.
